Every year, South Africans come together to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, a legacy rooted in compassion, unity, and service to others. This year, the Foton South Africa team embraced the spirit of Mandela Month by spending a heartfelt day with the incredible young patients at the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, based at the Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban.
We chose to give back in the most meaningful way we could, by spreading smiles, joy, and kindness. Our team arrived with care packs, goodies, and open hearts, ready to connect with the children who inspire strength and courage on a daily basis. What we received in return was far more powerful than we anticipated: pure joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments of connection.
Who is CHOC?
The CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders. They provide comprehensive support to both the children and their families — from emotional counselling to nutritional support, accommodation near treatment centres, transport assistance, and educational programmes to spread awareness.
Their mission is clear: no child or family should ever have to face the cancer journey alone.
Why It Matters
For Foton SA, this wasn’t just a one-day visit. It was a reminder of the power of humanity, empathy, and small acts of kindness. The children at CHOC reminded us that even in the toughest of times, there is room for hope and happiness.
It also reaffirmed our commitment to giving back to the communities we serve and making a difference where it matters most.

A Thank You from the Foton SA Team
Thank you to the CHOC Foundation team for welcoming us and for the tireless work you do. It was truly an honour to be part of your journey, even if just for a day.
