Foton’s Tunland V7 and V9 Have Officially Arrived in South Africa
Written by Foton SA
South African motorists now have a powerful new option in the highly competitive full-size double cab segment. The all-new Foton Tunland V7 and Tunland V9 have officially arrived, marking the local debut of the biggest and most advanced bakkies Foton has introduced in South Africa to date.
Designed with local conditions, lifestyles, and expectations firmly in mind, the Tunland V-Series represents a significant step forward for the brand — combining strength, modern technology, and purposeful design in a package built for real-world use.
Two Models. Two Distinct Personalities.
While the Tunland V7 and V9 share a strong engineering foundation, each model has been developed to meet different customer needs.
The Tunland V7 is all about durability and hard work. Featuring a leaf-sprung rear suspension and a reinforced cargo box, it is engineered to handle heavy loads, rough terrain, and demanding daily use. This makes it an ideal choice for business owners, fleet operators, and anyone who relies on their bakkie as a true workhorse.
The Tunland V9, on the other hand, places a greater emphasis on comfort and refinement. Its multi-link rear suspension delivers a smoother, more composed ride, making it well suited to families, professionals, and long-distance travel.
Importantly, this added comfort doesn’t come at the expense of capability — the V9 remains confident both on-road and off-road.
Proven Power and Global Engineering
Both models are powered by a 2.0-litre AUCAN mild-hybrid turbo-diesel engine, co-developed with Cummins, and paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain also features a BorgWarner turbocharger and transfer case, with Bosch electronics managing overall vehicle performance.
A 48-volt mild-hybrid system supports improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, reinforcing Foton’s focus on modern, efficient mobility without compromising on strength or performance.
A Milestone for Foton in South Africa
“The Tunland V-Series marks an important milestone for Foton in South Africa,” says Marius Smal, CEO of Foton South Africa.
“These full-size double cab bakkies offer a combination of toughness, modern technology, and value, supported by nationwide dealer coverage and upcoming local assembly. Whether customers are looking for a dependable work vehicle or a comfortable family bakkie, the V7 and V9 are designed to meet those expectations.”
With nearly 60 dealerships nationwide and local assembly scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026, Foton continues to strengthen its long-term commitment to the South African market — developing vehicles with local customer needs at the forefront.
A Bold Step Forward
The arrival of the Tunland V7 and V9 signals more than just new product launches. It reflects Foton’s growing confidence, investment, and ambition in South Africa’s highly competitive bakkie segment.
The Foton Tunland V7 and Tunland V9 are now available at dealerships nationwide — ready to work hard, travel far, and meet the demands of South African drivers.
